The Bell Riots ignited September 1, 2024, in San Francisco's Sanctuary District A. They resulted from longstanding tensions inside the overcrowded Sanctuary District and from equally longstanding neglect by those outside the districts. During the riots, Gabriel Bell became a folk hero for seeking a meaningful resolution - and for sacrificing his life to protect hostages taken during the event.
Although hundreds of Sanctuary District inmates died during the riots, the event also started the US on its efforts to address and eventually eliminate homelessness, hunger, poverty, and social inequality.
The reason none of this actually happened in September 2024 is because the Bell Riots occurred on a TV show. In real life, no one is going to time-travel from a future century to save us. If we want meaningful social change, we must build it ourselves.
This site asks when we plan to fight for the social changes we need. It also tries to provide some guidance on how to protect oneself during social upheaval while also working toward social change.
